There are times when you need to perform a more in-depth search and the Simple Search just doesn’t cut it. Never fear- the SmartMLS Tax Advanced Search has you covered.
To access the Advanced Search, simply click the Advanced Search and Map Search button on the SmartMLS Tax dashboard:
The Advanced Search allows you to run in-depth searches several ways:
You can use the arrow to the right of any of the options to expand it and access all of its features.
Search by Map
This feature allows you to search for property records using a handful of map tools (located in the upper right corner of the map):
The map search tool icons in the upper right of the small map allow you to:
- Zoom in/Out
- Compass directions (will always point north)
- Map View Setting (Road, Aerial or Streetside)
- Drawing Selection Tools (Polygon, Rectangle, Radius, Freehand)
- Measuring Tools (Parcel, Lat/Long, Distance, Area)
You may also use either the icon in the upper left corner or the View Larger Map button beneath the lower right corner to access a larger map with many additional search filters. Regardless of which you choose, you will be brought to a full screen map where you can use many additional search filters to narrow the results of your selected map search area.
Note: these filters appear in a single column on the left of the large map:
If you place your mouse cursor over any of the filters, the corresponding field(s) will appear directly to the right, allowing you to enter criteria:
There is also a CRS Map Layers section underneath the search filters that allows you to get even more granular with your search:
When one of these layers is being used, you will see a key in the bottom left hand corner of the screen explaining the icons/colors used for the selected layer(s):
You can select more than one layer at a time.
To minimize the map and return to the Advanced search screen, click Back to Advanced Search in the upper right-hand corner of the screen:

Search by Location
The Search by Location option allows you to search by address, parcel ID or school name:
Note : if you are searching by Parcel ID, you must use the SmartMLS parcel ID. If you try to use the ID from a field card or other source, you will not get any matches.
You can enter more than one Parcel ID in the field- just separate them with a comma.
When searching by address, you can enter a street number range. This is a good way to view the property records for a section of a specific street, or the entire street, at the same time.
Search by Property Value
You can use the Search by Property Value section to find property records based off of sales data (sales price, date of sale, etc.) regardless of whether or not the sale took place on the SmartMLS:
Search By Property Characteristics
Search by Property Characteristics allows you to search for properties based on their characteristics (as determined by the town assessors):
This is a great place to search based on things such as acreage, year built, number of bedrooms or bathrooms, etc.
Search by Owner Profile
Search by Owner Profile allows you to search for property records based on owner information, including owner name, previous owner name and absentee owner:
Saved Criteria/Clear Criteria
There are a couple of options at the bottom of the Advanced Search page: Save Criteria and Clear Criteria :
Save Criteria allows you to save your advanced search criteria, enabling you to easily pull it up again if needed.
After you click Save Criteria, a box will pop up that allows you to name the saved criteria:
Once saved, you can access it from the Saved Criteria drop down menu at the top of the Advanced Search screen:
Once you select your Saved Criteria, click the Submit button in any of the sections on the page to view your results (it does not even have to be the section where your saved criteria filled in).
You can view, rename or delete any of your Saved Criteria by going to Settings and selecting Saved Criteria:
To rename a Saved Criteria, click the pencil icon, edit the name in the pop-up window and click Submit to save your change.
To delete a Save Search Click the X icon and a pop up will appear verifying you want to delete the Saved Criteria:
